Looking Back:
Our experiment turned out very well. Our original plan was to make paint itself. But we then wanted to make it a little more fun! So we decided on puffy paint. Not only that, we also made glow in the dark too. In order to have the paint rise we used a fairly simple recipe. The mixture called for shaving cream. One thing about it is, it starts to dry up and harden if it's sitting out for a while.
Materials/Recipe:
- Squeeze bottles
- Elmer's glue
- Kool-aid
- Shaving cream
- Gloves
- Glass stir sticks
- Medium size bowl
- Two plastic beakers
- Glow in the dark powder

Looking Beyond:
We know that shaving cream allows it to puff up and rise. With that we noticed if you leave it out for long it starts to shrivel up and become stiff. Shaving cream has a fluffy consistency. The glue that gets mixed in makes it s bit more thicker but creamy. Since it didn't have any color to it, kook-aid would we a good alternative rather than food coloring. We noticed that once that is poured in, it makes the consistency change from being fluffy to a thick liquid. We're not sure why that occurred, maybe because it's meant to be mixed with water. Lastly, we made sure that no water was coming in contact with the mixture because then it would melt, which we didn't want.
Looking Inward:
I am very happy with what our end result came to. In the beginning I was feeling a little shaky about if it would work or not. I don't think we did much to receive such desirable results. We followed the recipe and instructions to the best of our ability. I think being precise is what made us stay on track. I think I preformed very well. This was rather an easy experiment to preform. I have never attempted to make puffy paint before and it was a great experience.
Looking Outward:
Once again my partner was Brianna. We had interest in making paint and wanted to see how it would turn out. We work pretty well together. Most of our decisions are the same and we are open to compromise. Together as a partnership I think we preformed fairly good. We both contributed to bringing in the materials and did an equal amount of effort.
Looking Forward:
If I could do this again I would try making water color paints or acrylic instead of puffy again. I enjoyed working with this type of paint but allowing myself to open up to different ones is a possibility. This was a pretty messy experiment. Shaving cream an glue are the two most messiest substances to work with. Having a cleaner and open work space would also we ideal.
Take Aways:
I took away some skills with me, such as organization, collaboration and communication. Being able to communicate and but in your share of the work is important. Without organization, this experiment would not turn out as well as it did. And I'm glad that we were successful.
